Fluoride Treatment

One preventive measure offered by Summit Dental is fluoride treatments. Fluoride is a naturally occuring mineral that is found in many foods and water.  Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria in the mouth.  In children under six years of age, fluoride becomes incorporated into the development of permanent teeth, making them stronger and therefore more difficult for bacteria to penetrate. Fluoride also helps reverse early decay by remineralizing already erupted teeth of both children and adults.

Fluoride can be directly applied to the teeth at home through fluoridated toothpastes and mouth rinses. At Summit Dental we apply fluoride to the teeth as a gel, foam, or varnish. These treatments contain a higher level of fluoride than the amount found in toothpastes and mouth rinses.

For our patients without fluoridated water, there are liquids and tablets available that we can prescribe for you.
